I recently completed this colorful piece after being intrigued by the many geometric paintings I've seen as of late. Creating depth on both the x and y axis become the goal. 

I call it Stargate because it reminds me of a crystalline diamond and thus, with a lot of imagination, could be a stargate in the heavens. wink wink. :-)

I snapped a pic of this little house while in Big Bend National Park in West Texas. If you haven't been, the park is a must see. This little house was on our last stop for snacks and gas before hiking Santa Elena Canyon, a truly beautiful spot.  

Stylistically, I'm continuing to simplify my landscapes and explore color and contrast, similar to California artists like Diebenkorn, Raimond Staprans and dear friends (also California artists) Sandy Ostrau and Nancy Boyton Hartley. Love how Raimond and Sandy edit their landscapes down to the basic shapes and paint in layers. I painted this Monday and just love it. Snapped a pic of this cedar in some tall winter grass on our way back from San Antonio a couple of weeks ago. Love applying a few simplification techniques I learned from Sandy Ostrau. Also love the mixture of brushwork and palette knife application. So much fun!

I painted this from I photo I took on a delightful winter excursion near Santa Fe, New Mexico. Love the little shed tucked into the trees. So enjoying painting snow scenes, even though I am totally ready for hot weather! My feet are cold!!!

The concept for this abstract immediately popped into my mind when I simply asked for inspiration. Gotta love that! I think of it as orbs of vibrant energy from the ground level on earth down to the core of our earth. They could also be magical plants in the ocean. What do you see? Fun to think about! I am definitely likely these bright colors on my taupe walls.

Spring Snowfall 11"x14"

I painted this from a photograph taken by my photographer friend Bill Oakey. He took it this past spring on a trip to Cloudcroft, New Mexico. I loved the photo immediately upon seeing it in my email. I painted this in my current abstracted-landscape style using a palette knife. I painted the detail and didn't really try to think about what the whole painting would look like. I know you are supposed to get up and look at your work from a distance continually as you paint. But I am enjoying painting "what I see" while staying at the easel and waiting til it is almost complete before standing back to see how it looks. And magically, it looked fabulous!!! It's like a game with me. Ha. I made a few tweaks after I stood back but not too many. What fun!!! 

This sold quickly so I will paint a larger version for our October "Side by Side" exhibit at the Old Bakery and Emporium Gallery at 10th and Congress in Austin.

After I painted "Summit" in a 7x5" format, I decided it was a perfect study for a larger work. So I created this 30x24" piece. It has a good bit of influence from the study, yet it seemed to take on a bit more of an entangled dance rhythm of two entities or figures rather than appearing as a single figure reaching a summit. Thus the new name. Hope you enjoy. This is one of my favorite color combinations. Available in my home studio for viewing. I am also happy to send additional photos.

When my husband I toured Vancouver Island in the summer of 2011, we started our tour in Victoria. This scene is a view from one of the residential areas, looking out to the Salish Sea  toward the San Juan islands. I used both brushwork and a lot of palette knife application. Hope you enjoy!

I painted this scene in the 12x12" format back in 2006 after our trip to California. It's a view of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse just north of Santa Cruz in Pescadero, CA. I LOVE the west coast! Was inspired to paint it again, only a bit larger and using both brushwork and palette-knife application. (Click to enlarge to see more detail.) This is special to me. I often get "downloads" or inspirations from my angels. One Saturday morning last fall, I woke up and received what I now consider a powerful light healing meditation. That morning, my mind was quiet and happy and blank. I was lying down. All of a sudden I started getting mental images of large squares of white light, about six feet by six feet, thin like a dryer sheet, going through my body starting at my feet and up to my head and surrounding space around me. They swashed though me one by one and then started coming faster and faster till it was just one strong light at my feet shining through me like a big strobe light. The thought came to me: "purification." Then I started seeing, in my minds-eye remember not thru my eyes, dark inky-blue purple light coming up my body, starting with my toes and slowing moving up my body. The thought / word came to me: "fortification." I understood that all the cells in my body were being fortified. This took several minutes - was slow like a software download on the computer. Finally, I saw a burst or flash of vibrant red light shoot up my spine to my neck. The word/thought came: "repair/reparation." I've had disc surgery in my neck and I have referred pain occasionally from this. Thus, the red repair light appeared where it was optimum for ME. So purify, fortify and repairing of cells must be the optimum way to heal. Works for me!!!!

I was inspired to paint this "Healing Light" piece so everyone could do this light healing meditation. The large white-ish area above represents the purifying white light. I put a Roman numeral I at the bottom right to indicate it is the first passage of light. The purple is actually next, so I put a II symbol in the bottom right. There is a tiny III in the red area. So now you can do your own "light healing" meditation. I am sure it was meant for all!! 

This painting is available. It uses techniques I am embracing - layers, varying thicknesses and using bold brush strokes and a variety of palette knife styles of application. It will be exhibited in the Scarborough Building main 6th street lobby from March 3 thru mid April. After that, any interested buyer can take it home. :-)

A big thanks to Carol Schiff who named this painting for me. Yay! Perfect. I love these water scenes from my trips to California. And am digging the thick paint and how it mimics the swirling water flow. LOVE IT!! It's going in my Scarborough Building exhibit March 3 - April 15 if it's not purchased before March 3. If purchased during the exhibit, I'll ship as soon as I can after taking the show down sometime in mid April.

Oma's caregiver for two years is a special woman named Ellie who would arrive each weekday morning at 7am and wake her up at 9am. Oma, always glad to see her, would start whispering "Oatmeal, oatmeal, oatmeal." She rarely asked her weekend caregivers to cook it for her, so she and Ellie enjoyed their oatmeal each weekday morning. Sorry, none here. These are my sweet Oma's breakfast dishes I now have. I added the strawberries for color.  She lived to be 98. You may want to eat oatmeal too.

The word it out - these were my three submissions to the Arthouse at Jones Center Annual 5X7 Fundraiser. What a wonderful event. I attended the Art Splurge last Thursday night and heard Friday night's Art Social was fun too. And these three all sold! Yeah new followers! Hoping when I find out who bought them, that they won't mind if I make prints of this combo shot. We'll see! Think they make a nice set for a bar.  Contact me if interested in prints!

Red Sky Mountainside

This is the first landscape I've done from my imagination Actually from a dream. Had to look at some photos of our trip to Colorado for tree references. I envisioned a really red sky. Was fun! Felt like another planet - very other worldly. Like Christmas on Mars.

Emerald Lake Study

We hiked to Emerald Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park a week ago.  Was gorgeous though we had to rush back. Enjoyed blue skies when were arrived but then we heard thunder. Dark clouds and cool winds suddenly came rushing in. We hiked quickly back a couple of miles in some sprinkling rain, then it poured the last 100 yards. I took 400 pics on our trip to Estes Park/RMNP.
