Mom's Mum ©

©2013 Debbi Smith Rourke
"Mom's Mum" 10"x8"
Oil on canvas panel / framed in gold plein air frame
NFS

I painted this from a flower arrangement my mom created. She brought me some flowers  and then graciously arranged them beautifully in several different vases to set around my home. This was a very dramatic view of a mum in a white pitcher. It became the still life for my first painting class for adults. Yah! Love this split-complementary color scheme. I just had to paint it myself using the palette knife. Thanks for the inspiration, Mom! xoxo

Sweetie Pie ©

©2013 Debbi Smith Rourke
Sweetie Pie 8"x 10"
Oil on canvas panel
SOLD

I set up this still life for my 9-year-old art student for her last still life class. A split-complimentary painting. She did an amazing job. So I decided I should paint it as well...before my husband ate all the pie. I suggested this title and he laughed. He had a great back-up title: "Life of Pie." We know around here that the life of this pie was quite short, but indeed sweet!

Oma's Old Coffee Pot

© Debbi Smith Rourke
Oma's Old Coffee Pot    8x6"
Oil on panel. SOLD.
Many of you know I lost my dear, sweet Oma (grandmother) last month. She was 98. And a half. At that age you start counting half years again. In honor of her and to remember her home  of 60 years she loved so much, I am starting a series of paintings devoted to her. You will see a combination of still life paintings from objects I received from her, or settings in her home and gardens. So stay tuned. I finished the first new one tonight, but alas, too dark to photograph. So I am starting with her coffee pot I painted last year. She thought it would make a good painting subject - and it did. Then she kept asking for her coffee pot back! Ha! My uncle Don has it now. Think he plans to brew some coffee the old fashioned way.

Trio of shot glass paintings

Lemon Shot  / Two Shots  / Shot of Lime
Originals 5x7 each / Contact me for prints of individual images or combo of 3.

The word it out - these were my three submissions to the Arthouse at Jones Center Annual 5X7 Fundraiser. What a wonderful event. I attended the Art Splurge last Thursday night and heard Friday night's Art Social was fun too. And these three all sold! Yeah new followers! Hoping when I find out who bought them, that they won't mind if I make prints of this combo shot. We'll see! Think they make a nice set for a bar.  Contact me if interested in prints!

Two Shots

© Debbi Smith Rourke
Two Shots  7x5
Oil on canvas board. SOLD.

Two shot glasses - one with lots of detail in the crystal. Not too easy but always like a challenge. Well, I've heard other artists talk about, after a break in painting, feeling like they've forgotten how to paint. That's what this experience was like. After a frustrating beginning and satisfying finish, here's what I am pleased about: I finished a cool little painting. And I learned it's optimum to plan the color scheme first on my color wheel.  Cut crystal is not easy but this looks new and different for me.  Next one will have an even brighter background  color.  I'm being more adventurous and I'm posting again!! Happy Easter everyone.

Cream and Sugar

© Debbi Smith Rourke
Cream and Sugar 8" x 10"
Oil on canvas board framed in wide, decorative gold frame.
$175 + $35 sh/h

This painting currently graces the bar area in my kitchen. Happy to send pics of it framed. My inspiration for this came from an array of vivid colors that popped in my head one night. I saw a vision of glowing lime green surrounded by lots of white, with deep aqua around the outside. So I found some items around the house to design a still life that could mimic the same color combination as I don't typically paint abstract paintings. It worked, though this is clearly more traditional than my vision. But I love this look. Kinda Van Gogh-ish! Enjoyed painting with white - I don't do it often.

Just painted this yesterday. Haven't cooked the apples yet. Hope to get another painting out of them first! Also hope the photo shows the variety of hues and temperatures I worked to capture in the reds. Was fun. Love the depth - feels like you an just pick one up!

Cake Slices

© Debbi Smith Rourke
Cake Slices
Oil on canvas.
SOLD
I painted this painting in Laurel Daniel's still life painting class in 2006 when were studying Wayne Thiebaud. This painting is loose and whimsical and I love that with this subject matter. It was also accepted into a juried art show at ArtSpoken Gallery and Studios in Austin. Hope this made you hungry!
