Five x Seven 2015 #5x7austin2015

©2013 Debbi Smith Rourke
 The Summit 7"x5"
Oil on canvas board
SOLD

Finally getting some pics up from the always-fabulous Five x Seven exhibit and party that benefits The Contemporary Austin. The 2015 event was held in late February and I was thrilled to be one of hundreds of participating artists who donated their 5x7" creations. In doing so, we contribute to a wonderful museum, AND find new collectors!

If you've never been, it's quite an unique and fun event. Art collectors and artists mingle and engage all evening. The work is displayed with the artist's name on the back (I painted over this signature before donating it), so you don't know who the artists are. There's an hour or two to view all the work as you enjoy amazing cocktails and foodie-good noshes. Each 5x7 work has a numbered tag. At 8pm a buzzer sounds and everyone goes running to pull the tag for their favorite artwork. I was so excited my little painting was claimed right after the buzzer. Sweet!

My painting is right over my head.

Hope to see you next year!

Tears of Joy 6"x6"
Oil on canvas board
$170 unframed + $13 sh/h in Continental US

Having fun finding environment images for my paintings. The color correction is truest on the large image of the artwork itself at the top of this post. This little painting has several layers of paint from different sessions, always using the sophisticated colors that emerge after a day of painting. Also loving painting wet paint into wet paint using the palette knife.

Emerging Spring © #emergingspring #DSRabstract

©2015 Debbi Smith Rourke
Emerging Spring 36"x48"
Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas
$2500 + $125 sh/h in contiguous US

I named this latest 3'x4' abstract Emerging Spring because it felt like the earth was busily and happily churning new life energy and then spewing it out as glorious young folliage. My color palette for this abstract painting is one of my favorites. I adore teal, lime green and rusty reds with golds, plus the more ethereal muted tones of each.  Then I found the perfect setting for the painting. LOVE IT! Now "Emerging Spring" is ready to reside in a new home just like this one. Contact me if you are interested in collecting this piece, prefer local pick up, or want to come to my studio to see it. Always an important step.

Canyon Lake #canyonlake #DSRlatestlandscape

Canyon Lake 8"x10"
Oil on canvas board
SOLD

I have been admiring some photos I took several years ago at our friends' home on Canyon Lake. I was considering painting a very large abstract from them. But first, thought it best to do a smaller version. I just LOVE what emerged. Using the palette knife and some brush work, adding just the right amount of texture and movement, lights and darks, mixing the perfect shades of colors and knowing when to stop....ahh, I think I may have finally learned a few things. :-) Love it when it comes together so nicely. And now, I'm occasionally adding some environment images. Enjoy!

Here is one more palm tree painting in my beach series. This one is a horizontal version. I love painting beach scenes of my favorite spot on the Mayan Riviera, especially when we are experiencing cold temps in Austin! Wish I were on the beach!
