I painted this from a pic I took on our way back from South Texas -- no idea where beyond being south of Bastrop and north of the King Ranch. Big area I know, but this is reminiscent of many country road scenes. Stylistically, this is leaning into my abstracted landscape territory, influenced by California artists like Raimond Staprans, Diebenkorn and Sandy Ostrau (check her out!). I snapped a pic of this little house while in Big Bend National Park in West Texas. If you haven't been, the park is a must see. This little house was on our last stop for snacks and gas before hiking Santa Elena Canyon, a truly beautiful spot.  

Stylistically, I'm continuing to simplify my landscapes and explore color and contrast, similar to California artists like Diebenkorn, Raimond Staprans and dear friends (also California artists) Sandy Ostrau and Nancy Boyton Hartley. Love how Raimond and Sandy edit their landscapes down to the basic shapes and paint in layers. Had a fabulous time in San Francisco last month visiting my talented and beautiful artist friend Nancy Boyton Hartley and husband Brian, seeing the sights, meeting with the charming Alina of Alina B and seeing the fabulous Pierre Bonnard exhibit at the Legion of Honor museum. They wined and dined me to no end!! Here are a few highlights. 

I'll also be a part of WEST - the West Austin Studio Tour starting this weekend. More detail to come on that shortly so stay tuned!!

Finally getting some pics up from the always-fabulous Five x Seven exhibit and party that benefits The Contemporary Austin. The 2015 event was held in late February and I was thrilled to be one of hundreds of participating artists who donated their 5x7" creations. In doing so, we contribute to a wonderful museum, AND find new collectors! 

If you've never been, it's quite an unique and fun event. Art collectors and artists mingle and engage all evening. The work is displayed with the artist's name on the back (I painted over this signature before donating it), so you don't know who the artists are. There's an hour or two to view all the work as you enjoy amazing cocktails and foodie-good noshes. Each 5x7 work has a numbered tag. At 8pm a buzzer sounds and everyone goes running to pull the tag for their favorite artwork. I was so excited my little painting was claimed right after the buzzer. Sweet! 

My painting is right over my head.

Having fun finding environment images for my paintings. The color correction is truest on the large image of the artwork itself at the top of this post. This little painting has several layers of paint from different sessions, always using the sophisticated colors that emerge after a day of painting. Also loving painting wet paint into wet paint using the palette knife.

This is another sweet little abstract that I painted in layers at the end of several of my painting sessions using some of the more sophisticated colors derived from mixing colors for a couple of hours. Love the gold, amber and grays. Very inspiring to me. Enjoy.

Here is one more palm tree painting in my beach series. This one is a horizontal version. I love painting beach scenes of my favorite spot on the Mayan Riviera, especially when we are experiencing cold temps in Austin! Wish I were on the beach!

Finally posting images from our fabulous reception last Saturday (Feb. 7). Thank you Alina B for hosting the lovely art party!! Nancy Boynton Hartley and I exhibited our contemporary oil paintings, and we had contemporary jewelry designs by Irenka Kudlicki and Julia O'Reilly. Lots of sales, champagne and sweet treats. I have 11 paintings in the exhibit, which will be up through May 2 at Alina B in Blackhawk Plaza in Danville, CA (East Bay).
