Go Orange and White #DSRartwork #stilllife

© Debbi Smith Rourke 2013

Orange and White 8" x 10"
Oil on canvas panel
SOLD

This is an oldie but a goodie. I painted this back in 2013 after UT beat OU in college football. As of late, that has been a huge challenge. So re-celebrating an old win and bringing back to mind one of my fav still life paintings. I love the thick paint applied with the palette knife. Creates a nice painterly effect.

I snapped a pic of this little house while in Big Bend National Park in West Texas. If you haven't been, the park is a must see. This little house was on our last stop for snacks and gas before hiking Santa Elena Canyon, a truly beautiful spot.

Stylistically, I'm continuing to simplify my landscapes and explore color and contrast, similar to California artists like Diebenkorn, Raimond Staprans and dear friends (also California artists) Sandy Ostrau and Nancy Boyton Hartley. Love how Raimond and Sandy edit their landscapes down to the basic shapes and paint in layers. Look for more like this from me. #austinartist #DebbiSmithRourke #AustinFineArt #Texaslandscapes #BigBendNationalPark #WestTexasArt #WestTexasAttitude #laststopbeforeSantaElenaCanyon

Purple Iris © #abstractfun #sidexsideexhibit

Purple Iris 10"x8"
Oil on canvas framed in natural wood and black  frame
$350 framed + $25 sh/h
Available on ArtfulGalleries.com

Here is another abstracted image for my "Side by Side" exhibit with photographer Bill Oakey next month at Old Bakery and Emporium. (In our "Side by Side" shows, I paint my interpretations of Bill's photographs.) This is all palette knife work. No brushes. Fun. Makes for easy clean up, too – no brushes to clean. :-)
I may do another larger version. You'd think larger versions would have more detail, but the larger I get, the more I simplify. Interesting! Love the process and exploration. Again, you'll have to come to the exhibit at 10th and Congress during the month of September to see Bill's stellar photo of one gorgeous iris.

West Austin View 24"x24"
Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas
SOLD

This is an enlargement of one of my favorite 12"x12" paintings. It's a simplified view of Lake Austin looking west. I am enjoying focusing on shapes, forms, color and texture.

Poolside 6x8"
Oil on archival panel framed in natural wood and black float frame
$250 framed + $25 sh/h
Available on ArtfulGalleries.com

I've been painting but I haven't been posting. So I'm catching up. This little abstract was so fun. The colors are from a poolside photo I found. Feel pool-like to you?  That's the fun of abstract. It is what you want it to be. What do you see?
