The 2013 "Side by Side" exhibit opens Oct. 4! Come see new works from photographer Bill Oakey and my abstracted interpretations of those stunning images in oil. This has been a fun year of exploring abstracted imagery and texture – and painting with the palette knife. As always, color is vital to the work. Hope you will come see what fills our hearts with joy and inspiration! 

The reception is Friday, Oct. 4, 5 - 7pm. There is limited parking in the lower level lot behind the Old Bakery & Emporium. As daytime workers leave, street metered street parking is usually available. If you miss the reception, the show is up Oct. 4th - Nov. 6th. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. After my two art receptions the first week in December, I went on a 7-day Caribbean cruise with my husband and some dear friends. Visited Cozumel, Caymen Islands and Jamaica! Ya mon! So enjoyed getting away and seeing the sights and drinking in the ambiance and margaritas!! Upon returning, I painted this little gem. Nice way to remember my island adventure.

Earlier this summer I adjusted this painting that I thought I had completed last year - after starting it 2 years ago in Laurel Daniel's plein air class. I always wanted the segue between the sky and hills to be less defined and be smoother, with more flowing paint between them. So I worked on that transition and now love it!! I  also reworked the water a bit. So now it's finished!! Again. Isn't Austin beautiful?? :)

This is my interpretation of a photograph taken by Bill Oakey. We are working together again on our "Side by Side" series of works - my painting and drawing interpretations of his fave photos. Rare for me to have the light value as the dominant value but interesting. I also chose to do a split complimentary of red, yellow green and blue green rather than the very blue and gray and red photo - which is lovely on it's own but wanted to change it up.
