I painted this from a pic I took on our way back from South Texas -- no idea where beyond being south of Bastrop and north of the King Ranch. Big area I know, but this is reminiscent of many country road scenes. Stylistically, this is leaning into my abstracted landscape territory, influenced by California artists like Raimond Staprans, Diebenkorn and Sandy Ostrau (check her out!). My husband and I recently took a trip to Alaska, including a 3-day land tour and 7-day cruise. One of our cruise days was spent in the glorious Glacier Bay National Park - a water park! We saw two amazing glaciers and other remarkable sights. This was inspired by an image I took near South Marble Island. Think this is part of the north end of South Marble Island but can't be positive. These colors inspired me to use my swirly, thick-paint palette knife technique. Each locale inspires me in different ways. Have so enjoyed painting my beach series. I took some inspiring pics this summer on South Padre Island, and I have a bunch from my trip to the Mayan Riviera. I try to capture the evocative spirit of these exotic regions so we can remember the magic right here at home.

I'm excited to announce that I will be part of a national abstract exhibit in Santa Cruz, CA entitled "Energy and Stillness," juried by John Maxon. If you are in the area, hope you will attend. Finally posting images from our fabulous reception last Saturday (Feb. 7). Thank you Alina B for hosting the lovely art party!! Nancy Boynton Hartley and I exhibited our contemporary oil paintings, and we had contemporary jewelry designs by Irenka Kudlicki and Julia O'Reilly. Lots of sales, champagne and sweet treats. I have 11 paintings in the exhibit, which will be up through May 2 at Alina B in Blackhawk Plaza in Danville, CA (East Bay). I'm California bound!! Whee!!! If you live anywhere near the San Francisco Bay Area, I hope you'll come to this Valentine's inspired art exhibit at Alina B's boutique in Danville, CA. I will be exhibiting my contemporary works (abstracted landscapes, abstracted still life images) along with contemporary works by my dear friend and amazing artist Nancy Hartley!!! Can't wait!! So thrilled Alina asked us to participate. The work will be up Feb. 7 - May 2 and I'll be there for the big reception on Sat. Feb. 7, so I hope to see you!!! My heart is very full, indeed.
