Texas Farmland ©DSR 2017 #DebbiSmithRourke #contemporaryart

© 2017 Debbi Smith Rourke
Texas Farmland 36"x48"
Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas
$4000 unframed
Available via ArtfulGalleries.com

I painted this from a pic I took on our way back from South Texas -- no idea where beyond being south of Bastrop and north of the King Ranch. Big area I know, but this is reminiscent of many country road scenes. Stylistically, this is leaning into my abstracted landscape territory, influenced by California artists like Raimond Staprans, Diebenkorn and Sandy Ostrau (check her out!). So look for more in this vein. #abstractedlandscape #contemporarylandscape #Texaslandscape #contemporaryfineart #oilpainting #AustinFineArtist

Teal Hills © / In-Home Studio Holiday Sale

Teal Hills 24"x 24"
Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas

I am enjoying painting abstracted landscape imagery, particularly of Lake Austin. Unexpected surprises arise when I explore techniques such as multiple layers, interesting new color mixes and a variety of textures.

This Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14th, I am hosting a Holiday Art Sale in my home and home studio. Email, text or FB message me for my address. The inside of our home is decked out for the season and my paintings are hanging throughout the house — an homage to myself! If you are in Austin, pop by!

The 2013 "Side by Side" exhibit opens Oct. 4! Come see new works from photographer Bill Oakey and my abstracted interpretations of those stunning images in oil. This has been a fun year of exploring abstracted imagery and texture – and painting with the palette knife. As always, color is vital to the work. Hope you will come see what fills our hearts with joy and inspiration!
The reception is Friday, Oct. 4, 5 - 7pm. There is limited parking in the lower level lot behind the Old Bakery & Emporium. As daytime workers leave, street metered street parking is usually available. If you miss the reception, the show is up Oct. 4th - Nov. 6th. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Look forward to seeing you!!

Rolling Hills 10x8"

Rolling Hills 10x8"
Oil on canvas board / unframed
 $250 + $25 sh/h in Contiguous US

This work is an abstracted landscape I created from a photo taken near Fredericksburg. I removed any trees and just looked at the layers of ground, hills and sky. Still playing around with where I want to land between representational and abstract. Pretty fun!

This is an enlargement of a study I did earlier this year.I really like working larger. Many of you know I am about to lose my dear grandmother of 98 years. She has lived a vibrant happy life and I am so blessed to have had her in my life. Monday night when I swung by her house, she had just awakened and was sitting on the side of the bed. I got to chat with her and got 3 sweet kisses. And she called me a rascal! So I was pumped and went home and started this. Finished it yesterday afternoon and am just now getting it posted. Off to Oma's house once again and would love another visit, but if she prefers to sleep and move along on her journey, that is wonderful too. She is about to embark on something very exciting and she is totally prepared - that happened very quickly. She will be missed!!! Go hug your loved ones!!
